40/25 Play Clock Procedures

Signals at the end of the down that start the :40 play clock:

Time-out, Dead ball with one arm up & incomplete pass.

One thousand one, one thousand two (two seconds) begin play clock.

 

Other signals:

:25 (one hand above the head) :40 (two hands above the head)

Come from back judge (primary) or referee (secondary)

 

Be aware of silent wind:

(first down, play clock is running & then referee will start game clock with

no whistle)

 

Change of Possession when Team B Snaps:

Turnover (interception, fumble recovery) not meeting line-to-gain, punt, etc.

Always :25 with referee chop.

 

Scores:

Always :25 with referee chop.

New Series after Kickoff:

Always :25 with referee chop.

 

2020 New Rule:

Play Clock at :40 for defensive injury or helmet is off.
